The

Problem

QUT’s current teaching model has little to no consideration of the needs of its disabled students, with physical classrooms often proving a challenge to attend. The unintended discrimination has created a disconnect between disabled students and their fellow students and teachers, as well as limiting access to quality education. While virtual classes have been introduced as an alternative to on campus teaching, the lack of accessibility in the presentation of a digital classroom does not meet special needs.

The Solution

C-TACT is a new form of assistive technology that aims to reshape the learning experience of QUT's impaired students, to suit their needs. Being part of a new wearable fashion line C-TACT operates by connecting users through augmented reality regardless of distance.

Facial Reconstruction Camera Frame

The frame captures the users face to create digital avatars to properly capture organic facial movements for communication by using AI.

Eye tracking lense

Four cameras and sixteen light diodes track the movement of the users eyes, which is used to navigate the system.

Blue light lens

Reduces eye strain by minimising harmful light, allowing for extend use times.

Transparent OLED lens

Projects AR interface through internal light projections through transparent OLED tecnology.

Eye tracking software is utilized to navigate the interface, to offer more freedom for mobility impairments.

Pushing for AR teaching, course content has the freedom to be audio, visual or written format, allowing for content to fit student needs.
Presence
Through augmented reality meetings, impaired students can still have a tangible presence through avatars.
Assistance
A.I is able to provide a level of independence through accessibility features. By offering real time captioning, text summarization and lip reading.
